No-Limit Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning one. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative feedback from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.
He started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and an eternal passion for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
