Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve final table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. He won a large pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest players in the world. While gambling on internet poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. He often participates in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus more often than not buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I believe Gus is an amazing poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is flat broke, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the game with the min buy in.
Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the ability out of big stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be one of the greatest poker players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amt.. I think tv can skew our perception of the real world sometimes. The greatest players in the world could be players you have never heard about. Gus can be found wagering on net poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in high stakes omaha hi-low and hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his talents in money games?
