NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player in the world by many of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative comments from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

Phil started playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning period and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated many of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable love for poker. Phil says that he is learning every day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil admits to making blunders in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Even though Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
