Internet Big Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen
Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to achieve last game in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a massive pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest enthusiasts anywhere in the world. While betting on online poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. Gus frequently plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all-in. I know Gus is an excellent poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has absolutely no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy in.
Buying in for the min takes almost all of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be 1 of the greatest players in the world but he cannot buy in for the total amt.. I think television can alter our perception of the real world sometimes. The greatest poker players in the world might be players you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen betting on net poker on Full Tilt. He normally participates in high stakes omaha high and texas holdem. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his skills in money games?
