No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn whatever he could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the detrimental comments from other people annihilate his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
He started playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing passion for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Even though Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
