NL Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player on the planet by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative feedback from others destroy his goal of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

Phil started playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an undying passion for poker. He says that he’s learning every day and is very humble about his success. He knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
