NL Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player on the planet by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental feedback from others destroy his dream of being one of the best poker players in the world.
He began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an undying passion for the game of poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Even though Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
