Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 where he loved participating in different card games when he was young. He found himself becoming very competitive in the above-mentioned card games while competing against his father. After finishing Sr. High school, Howard decided to place college on hold for a little while and headed to New York City to play some formidable chess. While playing chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s 1st 2 years were difficult as he played many hours and fail to win a majority of the time. He made some extra cash by being an assistant for the poker players. He theorized he could boost his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He made an effort to acquire more sleep and concentrate even more on poker.

The real advancement in his game happened when he began gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the greatest gamblers would regularly challenge one another. He was able to access a few of the greatest players in chess. With their assistance, Howard would sharpen his logical thinking skills. Howard applied these strategy ideas to the game of NL hold’em.

Howard Lederer also helped his sibling Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie was an excellent student of poker as she would always be asking questions about the right way to make the proper decision. He told Annie to move out to Las Vegas and play in the WSOP tournaments. Annie is one of the greatest women players the poker world ever. Howard relocated to Las Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and played cash games for the subsequent decade. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, he decided to compete in more tournaments.
